4 Foundations for Acne-Prone Skin

Without foundation… holy shit I don’t know where I’d be.
Lot’s of people have different security blankets in the form of makeup or a must-have they need to apply before they leave the house.

For some people it’s mascara, for others it’s lip chap.
For me, it’s foundation.

Since I was 14 years old and started getting acne, foundation is the one thing I can’t leave the house without.
And because of this, I’ve spent many years using various different foundations trying to find the right one.
I’m a self-proclaimed foundation expert (emphasis on ‘self-proclaimed’).

Some foundations have made me breakout aggressively, others made my skin oily, and some just plain didn’t cover SHIT.
But finally, at the ripe age of 24, I believe I found 4 foundations that work best for me and I have one for each social situation I find myself in.

Let’s get started shall we?

Disclaimer: All these foundations are known to be used for sensitive skin, and don’t necessarily help with breakouts but will most definitley not be the cause of it. Keep in mind, everyone’s skin is different. But these are the foundations that have worked best for me, for my acne prone skin.
I digress.

The Regular

Clinique’s Beyond Perfecting foundation is what I use on a daily basis. This has been my #1 skin bestie for about 5 years now. I actually started wearing this in high school, had a brief affair with bare minerals, but came back begging for forgiveness. This foundation is specifically for problem skin, and the coverage is BOMB. When you find the right shade, this will look like you are wearing hardly any make-up, but will cover all your imperfections. My favourite part about this foundation is that all you need is one dot to cover an entire side of your face. It’s like Marry Poppin’s bag, in makeup form.

The Summer Fling

Maybelline’s Dream Matte Mousse is a tricky one, because I don’t believe this foundation is specifically made for sensitive skin. So because I love you guys, please proceed with caution. That being said, I am an acne-prone person, and this is the foundation I use in the summer time. In the warmer months, my face gets RIDICULOUSLY oily and it’s NOT A GOOD LOOK. This foundation leaves my face matte and dry the entire day, and I swear I don’t even need powder– at any point in time. I use a kabuki brush to apply it, and it covers everything. This foundation will also give you a very natural look, and I swear this is a miracle worker for oily skin.

The ‘No Makeup’ Foundation

I love telling people about this foundation (it’s actually a BB cream) because of how convenient it is. When I go on vacation, I have just accepted the fact that I’ll never have that ‘natural summer glow skin’ that you see in teen movies. Therefore, I easily fake it. And I fake it with Loreal’s Magic Skin Beautifier BB cream. Before heading to the beach, I’ll apply a nice layer of sunscreen and then throw this BB cream on top. This cream covers my blemishes, gets rid of redness, and provides a summer glow. As a bonus, it doesn’t come off in the water and feels like nothing on my face. I strongly recommend this product for those of you are so tempted to wear foundation to the beach. Even to those nicer-skinned people out there who don’t experience tons of breakouts, this is a great product to quickly throw on before going out, especially if you hate foundation.

The Enhancer

I feel like I need to start this one by letting you know, this is NOT going to cover acne. Glossier’s Perfecting Skin Tint is for those of you who don’t like wearing make-up and don’t like the look of foundation. This skin tint provides extremely SHEER coverage on the skin and is meant to enhance the look of your own skin, not cover it. I use this product if I’m quickly running out to do an errand, or spending the night in with Andy. At first I didn’t like this product, because I felt like it covered nothing. However, once I left it on for about 10 minutes I noticed the slightly ‘airbrushed’ look it gave me. It didn’t cover my acne or scars, but it improved the overall appearance of my natural skin. Plus, Glossier’s products are so good for the skin.

There you have it, 4 foundations for acne-prone skin, for whatever situation your in. Thanks again for stopping by, and if you do end up trying out these products please don’t hesitate to let me know! Have a magical day, and Happy Halloween… cause it’s always Halloween here.

love you bye.
